Religions in Milan

According to ORIM’s last estimates (July the 1st, 2013), Muslim immigrants in Milan (regular and irregular) were 68.1 thousands; Catholics were 93.7 thousands; immigrants of other Christian religions were 46.6 thousands. Then follow Hindus (2.4 thousands), Buddhists (19.6 thousands), Sikhs (less than 800), other religions (2.4 thousands), and those without a religion (24.4 thousands).

Muslim migrants come mostly from Egypt (31000; 45.6% of the total), Morocco (9200; 13.5%) and Bangladesh (7250; 10.6%). To a lesser extent, they also come from Albania (2400; 3.6%), Senegal (2200; 3.2%), Sri Lanka (2100; 3.1%), Tunisia (1500; 2.2%), Pakistan (1400: 2.1%), Turkey (1200; 1.7%) and Eritrea (1100; 1.6%).
Catholic immigrants come mostly from the Philippines (35000; 37.3% of the total of arrives from countries with strong migratory pressure of Catholic religion), Peru (18700; 20%), and Ecuador (12300; 13.5%). Then follow those from Sri Lanka (4700; 5%), Salvador (4200; 4.5%), Brazil (2600; 2.8%), Bolivia (2000; 2.1%) and Romania (11600; 1.9%), China (1200; 1.3%). Immigrants of other Christians religions, mainly Orthodox, come from Romania (11600; one fourth of the total of other Christian religions in Milan), Ukraine (7600; 16.4%), Philippines (5600; 11.9%, here more often evangelist), Moldova (3200; 7.0%), Peru (2500; 5.3%), Russia, Eritrea and Ecuador (altogether 1800; 3.8% per country).
