The ISMU Foundation conducts reasearch and studies in compliance with the strategic guidelines laid down in the annual programme or upon request of public and/or private contractors.

Aimed at monitoring migration processes and ensuing society changes, notably through statistics and other relevant disciplines, research activities favour themes presenting potential concrete applications, therefore taking a research-intervention orientation..

Scientific and methodological rigor is ensured by the authority of the scholars and researchers involved in our projects. That is; they created innovative and original instruments: to estimate the size of the foreign population residing on the territory (including irregular migrants); to forecast future trends; to “measure” individual integration patterns and processes through specific sets of indicators; to analyse the impact of immigration on the economy and society; and to evaluate policies and initiatives for the reception and integration of migrants.
