Bibliorete is a project sponsored by libraries, each with its own specificities, operating in a common subject area. These libraries have identified in the network interesting opportunities for cooperation and coordinated mediation.

Why Bibliorete?

To connect a network of small libraries in this sector in order to:

  • create a single point of access to catalogus which allows easy and immediate way to know if and by whom possessed a certain document (with the ability to also request a loan or copy it)
  • rationalize the use of resources of each library through a coordinated development of the specific activities of each and some areas of common interest (promotion, web services, management and periodic consulting, etc.)

1. BiblioLavoro

The Library Association BiblioLavoro is specialized on the problems of the world of work and the history of the union, with a list of over 25,000 titles available in the National Library Service (SBN). It is divided between books, pamphlets (about 3000), periodicals (about 1700 articles of the unions and the social sciences, of which about 300 current issues), videos (over 3000, mostly from the archives of Filmmaker Festival, the “labor and social issues”). BiblioLavoro also takes care of a number of historical archives of regional and national trade unions.

2. Caritas Ambrosiana Foundation

Caritas Ambrosiana was born on the 18 December in 1974 as the Ambrosian office of the Curia for pastoral charity.
The documentation center was founded in 1983 as a space cultural learning for operators and all persons interested in the material collected and produced by the different sectors. According to latest update we can find in the library: 4000 monographs, 50 current periodicals. Central issues are the serious marginalization, homelessness, social exclusion. Special attention is also given to pastoral charity.

3. Cespi

The Centre for Studies of International Issues (CESPI) was founded in 1974 by a group of Italian and foreign scholars sensitive to developments in the debate on the difference between north and south of the world. The aim of the centre is education, information, research and documentation on international issues.
Among the services that the CESPI provides is the Historical Library. It is a library of international significance, which includes the Latin America fund. It is part of the Central Library of the town of Sesto San Giovanni.

4. ACLI Milano Foundation

It is a social promotion association, founded in 1945 by Achille Grandi. It is based on the triple loyalty experience of the workers, democracy and the Gospel. It is open to the participation of women and men, young people, adults and the elderly, and Italian immigrants on the basis of conscious adherence.

Operational areas include: employment, social policies, peace, promotion of European and global citizenship, development of local communities and their institutions, youth policy and the promotion of voluntary service.

5. House of Charity Foundation – Library of the Border

The Library of the Border is a place of research and documentation on the cultures and worlds hosted by the House of charity. More generally it is a space dedicated to the study of work methods and intervention in situations of marginality. The Library of the Border is a source of knowledge and experience, not only for the operators of the House of charity, but also for volunteers, students, social workers and researchers in the metropolitan area of Milan. It is place for who is interested at different levels of disciplinary and professional background in people who are emarginated.

6. San Fedele Cultural Foundation

7. ISMU Foundation

Cedoc -Documentation Centre- of the ISMU Foundation, an important interface with the public, plays a strategic action to implement the statutory purposes of Ismu. It includes the following activities: management and implementation of the collection of books and newspaper-periodical library (about 11,000 volumes, 95 journals, 900 video), updating archives and databases, the reception of visitors (over the four days of opening to the public), the handling of requests for documentation and consulting services , support to research, training and information activities carried out by different sectors of the Foundation.
